Dr. Mertins launched Mertins Eye Care in March of 2006, convinced that patients deserve to be treated with respect and appreciate receiving sincere, personal care. Dr. Mertins serves as an Adjunct Faculty Member of Southern College of Optometry. Committed to integrating the latest medical advances into her clinical practice, Dr. Mertins continues to shape some of these advances through her research and writing: She has acted as an FDA Clinical Co-Investigator, published journal articles, presented a lecture to the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and has co-authored a chapter in a medical textbook used to train LASIK surgeons.
Recognizing the importance of universal health care, Dr. Mertins volunteers at the Community Clinic at St. Francis House, located in the Jones Center for Families in Springdale, where she provides eye care to indigent and low-income patients . She is also an avid supporter of InfantSEE, a national public health program designed to ensure that sight-threatening eye conditions in infants are detected and treated early - before they interfere with a child's healthy development. As an InfantSEE eye doctor, Dr. Mertins provides no-cost comprehensive eye exams to children under one year of age, helping preserve each child's quality of life. She is also a member of the Arkansas Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association.
In her spare time, Dr. Mertins enjoys biking, yoga, baking, and spending time with her husband and children.
