20-20 vision does not mean you have healthy eyes.  Many individuals suffer from diseases and disorders of the eye that can affect their vision and quality of life.   Our goal is to preserve your quality of life by maintaining the health of your eyes and good vision, regardless of your age.  Many of the leading causes of blindness can be prevented through regular eye exams, early detection and treatment.  Mertins Eye Care provides comprehensive eye exams using the latest technology to protect the health of your eyes and good vision for life.

Here are the key steps you should take to preserve your eyesight:

1. Obtain regular physical exams.

2. Obtain regular comprehensive eye exams. **

3. Seek immediate attention if you notice any loss of eyesight, eye pain, or other vision problems.

4. Wear sunglasses that provide at least 99% UV protection and a hat to protect eyes from the damaging effects of ultraviolet rays.

** If your family has a history of eye disease, diabetes, or poor health, or if you’re taking medicine that could have side effects on the eye, you may need an eye exam more than once a year.  Please ask Dr. Mertins if you have a question about the frequency of your eye exams.
